HISTORY OF HIBIKIYA
HIBIKIYA , Established in 2007, has been entertaining audiences in the Lethbridge community with first hand knowledge of the Art of Japanese Taiko
The Japanese translation of HIBIKIYA is: “Echo Place.” This name was chosen to reflect an ongoing apprenticeship relationship between Suijin Kaminari Daiko and Bryan Pereverseff, a local Taiko instructor who trains with the group during his annual trips to Japan.
Bryan has trained with several Taiko groups over the years but most closely trains with the two groups in Towada City, Japan. He has been entrusted and gifted the name and Taiko songs to train and perform the traditional and contemporary art form of Taiko from Northern Honshu to his performance group in Southern Alberta HIBIKIYA. Many of these members have been training and performing with Bryan since he first brought Taiko to southern Alberta in 2002.
Bryan delivers quality, experienced Taiko instruction that has a linage of Taiko that can be traced back to his senseis (teachers) and the Taiko groups in Japan.
